Frames on the floor

This is what we're living with while I attempt to figure this gallery wall business. I'll probably move it around about 10 more times today. I'm liking this though.

And this is where it will go, on the wall behind the cutie-pa-tootie. This wall has been nekked for way too long, I've been saving it for my gallery wall, but I was skerd!

(How many made up words can I put in two sentences? ;)

While floating around the inter-webz looking at gallery walls, I found this post on (in)courage by the nester. The Nester's gallery wall is another one that we all know and love:

Lovely, yes?

Shelly over at The House of Smith's mentioned the online photo editor iPiccy the other day, and I have to say, I'm in looooove! It's so easy to use, and we can all stop morning the loss of picnik. So go check it out!

Gallery wall lovin'

Gallery walls. They're every where. Every one is doing it. I want to do it, but...

Ya'll, it's hard!!

I went and bought a bunch of frames from Target to go with the ones that I already have, and then came home and stuck them in a closet.

("I'll get to it after *fill in excuse*")

I had stuck a bunch of things in that closet that needed to be hung on the walls, but I'm so scared of putting ittle bitty holes in the walls, it's ridiculous. So one day I gathered up all my courage, and hung a bunch of stuff, finally, after living here for 6 months.

But all the frames for my gallery wall??

Well, at least I got them out of the closet, right? They all sat leaning against the wall in the hall to my bedroom for a month. Joey has gotten tired of looking at them leaning, and suggested we get them put up. (I so should have just left them in the closet ;)

I've seen plenty of beautiful gallery walls.

We've all seen The House of Smith's gallery wall. Love it! I especially love how there are other things besides photographs in it, like the subway art and the "Party of 5." So I definitely know that I want something like this. Shelly even wrote a how-to over at Home Stories A2Z that anyone wanting a gallery wall should check out.

One thing she suggest is getting lots of inspiration, which trust me I have, like I said, gallery walls are every where! And of course, again, Pinterest is your best friend!

One thing I love about this one is how their thermostat on this wall and you hardly even notice! Awesome!

I love the different frames in this.

Fab.u.lous.

I could do this all day ;)

I even found this:

The website isn't in English, but some things don't need words.

So where am I right now, in my gallery wall adventure?? A bunch of frames spread all over the living room floor that I rearrange every time I walk through.

I think Joey is rethinking his "lets hang the frames" idea.

Something new in the bedroom

I'm so excited, I finally worn my mother down, and she's giving me my great grandmother's antique metal bed. I've wanted it for EVER, and after my aunt saw "the new old house," she agreed with me that I do need the bed. Of course it came with stipulations, pretty much the husband has to move three beds. The things he does for love ;) Love him so much.

And, of course, I did what anyone does these days, I went to pinterest to see what inspiration I could find for a metal bed. And absolutely fell in love with this one:

I pretty much love it ALL. I just recently bought two dressers that were painted a robins egg blue and distressed (L.O.V.E. them!! I plan on writing a post about them this week) so this goes along with that. I could paint the bed  blue to go with the dressers...

Or, could go dark with it. I love me some rubbed oil bronze. And it would pop with the dressers, the light walls, and the lighter colored bedding I plan on getting. Which, speaking of bedding, that's a whole other post by its self. I now have to choose new bedding, which could take me forever, for some reason picking out bedding seems to be the most difficult thing to do.

Or maybe my favorite color, white. White looks good on everything. Which if I remember correctly, it's already white, so I wouldn't have to do anything to it.

We're down sizing though, from a king size to a queen. It's not going to be bad for me, but for the husband. Because I take up AS. MUCH. ROOM. as my skinny self can. In the king size bed, he still has room. But in a queen?? He may end up on the floor.

Bless his heart.

And that's what's going on in my neck of the woods!

Have I mentioned, by chance, how short I am? I'm five foot nothing.

Also, have I mentioned, by chance, how high the ceilings are in the new house? Like 12 feet.

Lets do some math.

5 foot woman + a ladder / 12 feet ceilings = 3 inches too short

I can't reach the top of the walls to cut in. That was the most aggravating thing ever, after I drug that stupid, heavy ladder out of the closet, fought with it for 30 minutes (my husband bought the worlds most complicated ladder EVER)

In fact, let me introduce you to the worlds most complicated ladder.

My nemesis.

I know, it probably doesn't look that complicated to some, but this ladder kicks my butt everytime.

To 'open' the ladder you have to push these knobby things in on both sides, and then turn them. And I can't ever remember if it's supposed to be clockwise or counter clockwise. So, that's round one of the fight.

Round two is getting it to latch, which for some reason I always have a problem with.

Round three is adjusting the height, with the do-dads here on the side. This ladder will also become an extension ladder, and all other types of things. It's like the Super Man of ladders. It just hates me.

So, after fighting to get the ladder right, I climbed up it, with my little tray of paint and paint brush, reached up... and realized I was 3 inches too short. My husband was not happy to hear that he has to help me, since he's taller than me. The man hates to paint, but the color Blythe Anne's room was has to go. And of course, I forgot to take a before picture (I'm still getting used to the fact that I finally have a camera again!!), but I did take an after picture of the coat of primer on the wall.

That peachy color on the molding? That was the color of the entire room. Ceiling, molding, walls. All peach. OMG made me want to poke my eyes out to keep from looking at it! There are some quirky things going on in this room, like the ceiling tiles (I hate ceiling tiles) to the random vertical trim pieces on the wall... it needs to be sheet rocked. But since I don't know when we'll get around to that, I'm going to go on and paint it, because I cannot live with that peach!

Back from the unofficial break

Yes, I realize I haven't posted since October. Everything with the house selling/buying went to crap, and I was stressed to the max.

A condensed version of the story: The problems with the title to the house we were going to buy were not minor problems, it was more like 3 major problems. We finally gave up on that house.

I then found out about another house for sell (I heard about it on Facebook, of all places). I didn't think I was going to like the house when I first heard about it, because it's in town, it's on a major highway, and across the road from a cotton gin. But after I came and saw the house, none of those things even came close to mattering.

The first time the house shows up on records is 1920, and was built by the first doctor in this parish, so the house was also used as his doctor office. It has all the original old doors and the door knobs with the skeleton keys, hardwood floors, high ceilings... it's just absolutely wonderful.

The day after I first saw the house I signed the purchase agreement. Exactly two weeks later, we closed on the house. I KNOW! It went so fast, I couldn't believe it! Also unbelievable -- I bought a house my husband had never seen. I sent him pictures, but that's not the same.

Then the holidays happened, and I haven't even had time to THINK about my blog at all. But things are slowing down some now, so I can get back on the horse :) I also finally got a new camera (a Nikon D3000), so I can finally take pictures again. Blythe and I are having a girls weekend, we sent the boys off to the camp with Mawmaw and Pawpaw, and we're going to (attempt) to start painting her new room tomorrow. The girl we bought the house from had painted the whole house, and had great taste in paint colors thank goodness, but she didn't get around to painting what is now Blythe's room. And it is a god awful peach color right now. Blythe's birthday was yesterday, and she asked for zebra bedding (not my personal favorite, but it is her room) so I got her that and pink sheets. The peach walls have to go. As of right now the plan is to just paint the room white. I don't want to much going on since she wanted to go the zebra route. Oh, and not only are the WALLS peach, but so is the crown molding AND the ceiling. Yes. I'm serious. I don't know how I'm going to get  the ceilings painted, guess we'll figure that out tomorrow :)

Falling...

It's that time :) Although with Louisiana weather, we don't get much of a 'fall'. We go from having to have the AC on to having to turn the heater on. Haven't had to turn the heater on quite yet, but there have only been a few days where it's been cool enough to turn the air off and open the windows.

But how awesome are those ghost gourds? LOVE EM!

I think this is a great idea, mums in pumpkins. I've never seen this before. I can't wait to go to the pumpkin next week :)

I really hope we get into the new house before Christmas ;) so that I can do this. I may need to get A LOT of pumpkins next week.

13 days and counting

I'm obviously not a good blogger. At all. Because good bloggers, well, they actually BLOG. I know, right? Who-da-thunk-it?!

So updates since last post. We sold our house! YAY!! WOOHOO! We (actually, I did it, because the hubs was at work) closed on it on September 14. I was so happy to have something finally finished. It was a load off of my shoulders. So we could finally close on the new house, the people that we're buying from can close on their new house, they they can move out, we can move in our new house, and my friend can move in her new house (my old house. I know, it's confusing.) things were moving only.

And then it all went to crap. There's a minor problem with the title to the new house (long story, it's not a big deal. There was one signature missing from when it sold last. So they're having to track this person down. And it's not going well.

So as of today, we have 13 days to close on our house, the seller to close on their new house, the seller move out, and us move in. This is not realistic. At all. I'm thankful that we sold our house to my friend, I know she won't kick us out in the cold, but I still want to get out of her house, and get into my new one.

I've told my banker and our real estate agent if they don't hurry up and make this  happen, I'm going to move in with one of them. And they both know that I'm crazy enough to do it, so they're scared ;)

First thing in the morning the banker is supposed to call. So we'll see what he has to say, hopefully we'll be able to close tomorrow afternoon.

About Me

My photo
I have three kids:
Blythe Anne, 8
Jonah, 7
Peyton, 4

My husband and I have been married for 6 years, and I spend my days being a stay at home mom while he's a driller on a land rig. So for six months of the year (he works a week on, a week off), I'm raising these kids by myself. I would write more, but I hear children screaming :)
